FISHING FOR A LIVE ONE
******************************
No one get's my heart again I vowed,
Puts me aboard their crowded love boat,
To do a feature on sports fishing,
On how to land a wall-eyed sucker.
How to lie in wait and bait a hook,
Snap a photo for secret files,
While velvet cat-tails grow in green weeds,
As pond scum grows exponentially.
* * * * * * *
Old lures no longer attracted,
Jaded bottom-feeder scavengers,
Were far more fun in the big world-wide net,
Where "Swim at Your Own Risk" is ignored.
Fisherman hooked by their tempting prey,
Put their catch on ice to taste later,
While all future plans died silently,
Non-complying actions penalized.
* * * * * * *
My eyes fogged with tears that would not stop,
I swiped them away in puzzled hurt,
You said you weren't going anywhere,
And I should know that you needed me.
Then with no warning and not a word,
You let me know it was all over,
In my face, you slammed the door.
It hurt and I couldn't help but cry.
Never thought you'd walk away for good,
Leave me hanging to work myself free,
Cold inside, all alone and bereft.
Still can't believe you left me like that.
How could you do that to me my friend?
It's not just my heart, you broke a trust,
Left me confused and for what I ask?
But it's okay, and I'll let it be.
See my guardian angel there on shore?
He'll rescue me on fantasy wings,
Fly me away from this hard world,
Deliver me to sweet paradise.
