The cruise ship was at the dock. The horn let out three short blasts and they were ready to set sail.The ship slowly edged its way away from the pier as it made its way out of the port and toward the open sea.She watched from the stern of the boat as the ships wake turned the ocean into a sea of white foam. Well she hadn't planned to be alone on this cruise but she came anyway and was determined to make the best of it. She went down to her cabin to put on her bathing suit.
He stood at the bow of the boat watching it slice through the water as the ship headed out to sea. He should have been in a good mood after all it was a vacation but he hadn't planned to come alone. Things just hadn't worked out as planned and so he had come by himself. He watched the ocean for the longest time and then went down to his cabin to change into his bathing suit.
She lay in the lounge chair and the waiter bought her drink and placed it at her side.This was the life she thought as the sun streamed down on her and she closed her eyes and slept...........God she was bored already.

Well, she thought as she woke up next on her agenda was to get ready for dinner. She showered and dressed in her cabin and looked in the mirror before she left her stateroom. She looked very tropical with her long flowered skirt and her snug fitting stapless top. She had added the heels as an afterthought and walked carefully down the corridor.
The head waiter asked her where she would like to be seated. She chose a small table by the windows.Being seated with a bunch of strangers did not really appeal to her in the least.
He had gone down to his stateroom to change clothes for dinner. He really wasn't looking foward to sitting with a bunch of marreid couples but resigned himself to the fact that if he wanted to eat he'd have to be some what social. He chose a pair of dress slacks and a casual sport coat for dinnner and headed to the main dining room.
The waiter asked where he would like to be seated and he chose a small table by the windows occupied by one woman. He thought being seated with one person was about as social as she wanted to get.
The waiter escourted him to the table and asked the woman if she minded the company.She smiled and nodded her consent and he sat down. They introduced themselves and then an awkward silence ensued. Great she thought, if there was one thing she was bad a it was small talk. She looked over and he looked as uncomfortale as she felt.
As he sat looking over the menu, he thought to himself, this could be a very long dinner. He absolutely detested small talk but he looked over at her and she looked as uncomfortable as he felt.
They both began to speak at the same time, and then they laughed. Their eyes met and she began to take inventory of her dinner partner. Very nice looking, tall, slim , well groomed and a great smile. When he spoke the sound was deep and very appealing and he had really nice kind of gray blue eyes. Nice she thought, very nice.
He began to relax a little as they laughed at the awkwardness of the situation. As their eyes met he began to take inventory of his dinner partner. AS their meal began the small talk began to flow smoothly. They shared all the basics of where they were from, what they did, family, freinds and all the usual topics.Then their conversation turned to why they were alone on the cruise. They both shared a relationship that had just gone wrong and were already commited to the cruise so they had come alone.
As the meal ended he asked her to join him for a drink in one of the many lounges.They spent the rest of the night in the ships many lounges hopping from one to the next.They danced and they laughed and they danced some more. He turned out to be a really great dancer so either fast or slow they enjoyed the music.
At some point during the evening she got the feeling this was turning into more than just a dinner date.She liked him she genuinely did. He was quite good looking, smart and very funny. She began to wonder how the night would end.

It was late and they headed down to the deck below where their staterooms were located. He walked to her door with her and watched as se used her key card to unlock the door.
