Bill is walking back from the parking lot just as I catch up and let him know I want to accompany him to Mr. Lo' s to pick up my mail. He says:
"Great, I was about to ask if you wanted to come along for the ride."
Putting my birthday cards and a few bills in my bag, I turn my attention to Mr. Lo who insists on giving me extra rice and fortune cookies because it's my birthday.
Food in hand we hurry back to Cheers in anticipation of eating and having sex on the piano. As we pull in I wondered what all the cars are doing in the parking lot but figure it's probably the neighborhood baseball players gathering at the bar across the street, never expecting to find my place full of friends shouting
"Happy Birthday Babe!"
I look at Bill and exclaim:
"Did you know about this all along?"
He looks down at his feet and says that he didn't know until the last minute - that in fact Lori my assistant confronted him in the parking lot and clued him in on the surprise.
It doesn't matter to me how it happened, just that it IS happening and that my dear friends are here wishing me all the best, telling me how much they love me and asking if I was surprised.
Lori shoves a drink in my hand and asks,
"ARE you surprised?"
I give her a hug and tell her she can't begin to know how surprised I am and how much I appreciate her efforts to get my dear friend Amadaus (1) to accompany all the singers.
I so want to be happy tonight and now know it will be guaranteed with the presence of my singer friends and Amadeus. Every event with them is ALWAYS a happy one.
As I make my way among the guests I see my old friend and tenor Patrick O'Connor who brought "Carlos" a Washington Diplomat to one of my parties two years ago.
Patrick takes me by the hand and leads me over to Carlos saying:
"Here she is Carlos!"
I was pleased to again be introduced to Carlos and told him I remembered him well. How does one forget a young Charleton Heston look-alike?
The one and only time we ever met was at one of my parties where he held my hand before leaving and proclaimed:
"As often as I attend parties in Washington, never have I had a more enjoyable time than I have had here tonight with you and your wonderful friends."
Ever since our initial meeting I have often recalled Carlos's sweet and generous words. Every so often his handsome chiseled face pops into my head at the most unexpected times and I wonder if he still remembers me and the party.
As if reading my mind, Carlos looks into my eyes and says,
"I have often thought of you and the wonderful party you gave for Patrick."
His warm steady eyes study me like he wants to ask if I am free.
I glance across the room to see if Bill is watching me and am relieved to find he is deeply involved talking with Nancy the siren songster who always sings the classic jazz standard "Ain't Nobody's Business If I Do".
I turn my attention back to Carlos and ask him if can bring him another drink. He smiles and tells me that he already has one but would consider another if I would join him at the piano bar.
I said "sure" wondering if maybe he was hitting on me or if my imagination was getting the better of me.
At the piano we stand close to each other. The more I sing, the happier I get and the horny I become. I find myself loving the feeling of his leg pressed to mine and people crowded in so close around us.
Carlos's face is flushed and he appears animated. So animated that this proper gentleman drops his hand to my waist and before long, to the top of my hips. He laughs often and pats my butt affectionately.
Lori comes by with hordourves and points to the big Coca-Cola mirror directly behind us and I remove Carlos's hand from my behind and nod towards the mirror. He catches on quickly and we can't stop giggling about being "caught" by the mirror."
I glance over to where I last saw Bill talking to Nancy and give him a little wave. This is enough to motivate him to approach the piano and let me know he is going to take Nancy home and then go back to his apartment and call it a night. He says he's tired.
I tell him,
"Bill, I need to talk to you before you leave; upstairs in my office."
Excusing myself, I turn to Carlos and say I'll be right back and to hold my place at the piano.
He smiles and responds:
"No problem, I'll be right here. Take your time."
Upstairs I put my arms around Bill and say:
"You got the hots for Nancy don't you?"
He blushes and asks why I would ask that:
"Look, I am not asking you that because I am jealous, you know I'm not. I just want to release you and let you go on to your "greater good" and for you to do the same for me. We care for each other so let's do the right thing. End it now on a high note. If I am wrong tell me, and I won't let you go. At least not tonight. We can always send Nancy home in a taxi."
Bill held me tight and looking deep into my eyes, lets out a sigh:
"Oh Babe, I hope we can always be friends. I do love you, just not how you want me to. I think you love me too, but not how I want. It's like that song of Sting's "If You Love Somebody Set Them Free".
I nod my head, telling him I agree and say:
"Bill, we are still young and have our entire life ahead of us, I think you are right. If we end it now we can do it on good terms and then each of us can move on to our greater good."
Bill asks if I have a thing for Carlos and I tell him I do but nothing has happened yet and it can wait on the back burner if need be.
Kissing me on the forehead Bill says:
"Babe, I hereby release you to your higher good."
I kiss him on the cheek and reply:
"And the same to you my friend..."
With that Bill walks back down stairs and he and Nancy leave out the lower door. Relieved I return to my place at the piano bar. I slip back in and without a word squeeze Carlos's hand under the piano's ledge. In return, he squeezes mine as if to say "welcome back".
Not hesitating this time he wraps his arm snugly around my waist. The magic of this night and and feeling Carlos body close to mine is as intoxicating as my third glass of wine.
My tummy soon tells me I need food and reminds me that the Chinese from Mr. Lo's was never consumed.
"Carlos, I need to get something to eat. Join me?"
Lori fixes two plates for us off the buffet and we take them upstairs to my office.
Sitting down on my sofa I noticed my skirt has worked itself high up my thighs but I leave it there and do not bother to bring it down.
Carlos admires my paintings while I fix him a "Bushmill's Irish Whiskey On The Rocks". He adjusts the Bose Intercom so we can hear the music downstairs and to our mutual delight one of my friends is belting out "Stormy Monday Blues" with Amadeus on the piano and Moe on bass fiddle.
Carlos comes close to me and says how much he loves the "Blues". Lghtly kissing me on my mouth he laughs. I playfully poke him in his "six pack" and ask why he is laughing. He says its because he's happy we are listening to the Blues and not feeling them.
I told him I was too and hope before he leaves tonight he'll be happier yet.
Carlos then comes close to me placing both hands on my shoulders and begins massaging them. I close my eyes, tilt my head back and he kisses me on my neck. OMG does he know that neck kisses drive me crazy!
I bolted upright and in a half whisper say we need to take our food downstairs and join the others. He says he understands.
Downstairs Carlos returns to the piano and I mingle with friends who are calling it a night. One by one I give the "early leavers" a hug and thank them for coming.
I stop back to the piano to see how Carlos is doing. Biting his earlobe lightly I whisper in his ear:
"I hope you're not in a hurry to get home."
Carlos squeezes my hand and looking longingly into my eyes, tells me what I want to hear:
"Are you kidding?" I'm here for as long as it takes."
Regrettably, the fun ends. Guests leave, the music stops and I thank Amadeus profusely, telling her what I always do, that without her none of this would happen. Then with final hug I bid her and Joesph a fond farewell reminding them we must do this again soon. (2.)
I walk back to an empty room and find Carlos on the sofa in front of the fireplace with his feet up on the coffee table in a state of total relaxation.
Within seconds I am sitting on the couch next to him taking off his shoes and tenderly rubbing his feet. Before long I find myself dozing off.
Carlos wakes me and says,
"Look here sleepy head, if you're not going to rub my feet come up here and rest yourself on my chest and I will help you go to sleep."
I do as he says and find myself cradled in his arms with my face upon his chest and my tongue teasing his bare chest between the buttons on his shirt. I am vaguely aware of Carlos gently kissing me and combing my silky long blond hair with his daVinci like fingers.
I feel him free me from my bra and slowly begin to caress my breasts marveling all the while at my virgin like pinkish nipples growing hard between his thumb and forefinger. My head drops backward and in sweet anticipation and I wait for his kiss upon my neck to drive me crazy once more.
His tongue travels along my neck up to my lips and we unite in a long wet kiss as his hand takes mine and guides it towards his manhood. Holding it there I feel his cock growing hard and his hand traveling under my skirt eager to hold my puffy wet pussy. Once there he captures it in his hand like a stray baseball and continues to hold it like he never wants to let it go.
Horny but wanting the moment to last, I drift off once more, this time hearing Carlos talk sweetly about a trip. It's as if I am in drifting in a dream:
"Babe, in two weeks I can take ten days off from work. I want you to fly to the Caribbean with me. I must leave tomorrow for Washington but I can't bear to leave you without knowing if I will ever see you again, or when I can be with you next. Promise me you'll join me my darling, and I will kiss you goodnight. You have not slept for two days and neither have I. We can wait. I want the first time I am inside you to be something we will always remember."
Waking up in the morning, I find a note that says
"I have reserved our tickets. Call me as soon as you've had breakfast. Love, Carlos".

**************************************************** SEE FOOTNOTE BELOW FOR STORY BACKGROUND
(1) There is no one that ever reminds me of Amadeus Mozart Haydn - except Mozart himself - she is truly one of a kind as well as being a distant relative of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
Amadeus is a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. She is a highly trained classical musician - but what is so unusual - is her gift to accompany ANYONE. Perhaps partially due to her gift to play by ear, she can instantly transpose any song to a key that is suitable for a particular singer.
"Daffy" a well known retired university coach was amazed at what Amadaus could do at the piano. At one of my parties he sang all by himself a half dozen Irish ballads. Stunned big burly football coaches gathered around the piano to hear Daffy, not quite believing the historic moment that is still talked about when coaches gather for a mug of beer on St. Patricks Day. One of the coaches told me later that Daffy told him, that he had not had so much fun in years.
Joseph Haydn IV owned Haydn's Restaurant and Lounge with his mother. He met and married Amadeus in Boston and brought her back to a major mid-western city to live and entertain their upscale cliental.
Amadeus built up a following and mingled with the town's movers and shakers becoming a good friend to hundreds of amateur and professional singers.
One of the movers and shakers was a well known congressman known as "Quarter Back". He and his wife often wined and dinned their friends at Haydn's and after dinner would join the unforgettable sing-a-longs around the piano.
Haydn's boomed with good times, but as the neighborhood became infested with crime, Joseph and Amadeus closed Haydn's and Joseph went into real estate. Amadeus and her "Choir" relocated to a popular 5 star hotel and conference center.
Joseph Haydn went to high school with "Quarter Back who later become affiliated with the highest office in the land. Shortly thereafter, Amadeus and Joseph were invited to Washington and Amadeus played the piano to the delight of Quarter Back and his wife.
Time passed swiftly and Quarter Back ended up running against another well known political figure. One of our singers "Bean Stalk" became Quarter Backs campaign manager. Shortly thereafter Bean Stalk became engaged to one of us but was killed in a tragic automobile accident before the marriage. Finally politics ended and with the exception of Quarter Back and his wife, we all went back to singing our songs wherever Amadeus did her magic .
2. Saying goodbye to "Amadeus" was never easy to do. She was considerably older than me and I was always painfully aware each time could be the last.
After I relocated we wrote or talked by email or phone at least once a year. The last time I talked to her "Joesph" had just died. Shortly thereafter she joined him. The story of Amadeus is basically true but toned down and incomplete. Most names, places, and locations have been changed.
