SWEET TALK'N SAVAGE BEASTS

SWEET TALK'N SAVAGE BEASTS
The Power To Persuade (Part 3)

The grim look on the cab driver's face was anything but reassuring as he clutched the steering wheel fighting the high wind and blinding lightning along the heavily wooded ravine leading back to the hotel in downtown San Francisco.

Nevertheless, it was a welcome change from Gabe who'd left her horny right after doing him at dinner. Two weeks and he was already taking her for granted and leaving her hanging. She made note of it in his sexual score card and deducted points.

"WHAT A GUY! she told her sister, "But I look at it this way, it's like Alice Cary said, SOMETIMES THE THING OUR LIFE MISSES, HELPS MORE THAN THE THING WHICH IT GETS, and if Gabe had stayed with me, I wouldn't have been able to meet with Jan just now."

Alice herself must have been in heaven agreeing, as lightning hit and Reba lost connection with her sister.

Thunder crashed all around the taxi with little time now between the lightning bolts. Try as she might she kept shrieking, scarring the driver each time she did it and saying she was sorry, but then going right ahead and doing it all over again.

Exasperated the driver scolded, "Woman, you gotta stop that! That is if you want me to keep this crate on the road."

Just the same, with all that was going on outside, it took some effort for her to get into a mind set that removed her emotionally from the storm and her taxicab swaying all over the road.

Knowing she must, she concentrated on the meeting she'd had earlier in the day. That did the trick and let her change mental channels and forget the storm.

Visualizing Gorgeous George, the royal pain in the ass, who called himself her boss, she began plotting on how to get rid of him for good.

And that got her to thinking about John, her husband. An even bigger pain in the ass--sitting and stewing in Boston--biting at the bit to chew her out as soon as her plane touched ground.

*******************

Sick of thinking about the guys, Reba needing a new diversion, called Jan her friend she'd just left up in the hills. Thanking her for the coffee and apologizing for having so little time to spend with her, she promised next trip to San Francisco, she'd be sure and stay with her for a few days--not eat and run.

Seeing a jagged bolt of lightening and feeling a deafening clap of thunder, she told her friend goodbye and realized her cell phone had died again.

Precisely at that moment, the cab driver instinctively slammed on the brakes and wrenched the wheel to avoid impact with an animal that bolted out on to the road--but not in time to miss rock falling into the middle of Canyon Road.

The cab and rocks went into a spin as lightning lit-up giant redwood limbs falling across the middle of the narrow road.

Fighting free from her seat belt, Reba got the door open and threw herself out in to the unforgiving ditch. Thankfully, the cab didn't follow her and veered in the opposite direction.

Momentum hurled her into the ditch along with her cell phone and briefcase. Seeing her stuff, she felt relief, but then realized she should instead, be feeling pain. Wondering if she was in shock, she opened her mouth to see if she could speak, she found her voice and moaned.

"Oh God, help me, help me . . . please help me . . ."

Clawing at the rocks, and hurting, she felt her fingernails breaking off one hand, as the other grasped a nearby branch that kept her from sliding downward into the deep canyon. Dragging and inching herself back up the rocky incline, she reached the top and took a deep breath.

Raising her eyes, she looked straight into the dripping fangs of a huge ugly looking canine.

Shouting, "No way, no way," her heart began beating out of her chest as she looked into the eyes of a coyote about to attack her without mercy.

Frozen in time, her mind replayed a news program about coyotes. Supposedly, they didn't eat humans, but a week before, a woman was devoured.

Seeing the look in the beast's eyes, she ceased all useless speculation and froze. Fear and panic overwhelmed her. But then her survival instinct kicked in.

She began sweet talking--trying to woo the savage beast--praying it would work better than when she tried it on her blood sucking husband.

**************************

Reba didn't remember much of anything after that except hearing sirens in the background and feeling the beast licking her face before running off into the canyon and everything going black.

Waking up in emergency the physician on duty told her that she would be okay and miraculously, only suffered superficial cuts and bruises, but as a precaution, they were admitting her to the hospital for observation.

"I can't do that, Reba told him, I have to catch a Red-Eye out of here tonight."

"Reba, don't be concerned about that, we have contacted your emergency numbers--in fact your employer is waiting to see you as we speak."

"My employer?"

Confused, Reba understood when she saw George walk in to her curtained area, flowers in hand.

Laughing she asked,"What are you up to now George? Afraid I'll miss our plane?"

"Yeah, Reba, no point in flying out of here without you. Who would I have to fight with?"

"I agree. Get me out of this place. If I need to be in a hospital, I'll go to Mass General when we land in Boston."

Making himself at home and as if he belonged with her, George was surprisingly gracious compared to what he was early in the day at the plant. And if she hadn't known it was him, she'd have been calling her sister and telling her about the charming man she just met.

"Reba, we can swing by your hotel to get your bags. I sent the rest of your stuff from the ditch back to the plant with Lennie. He'll pack it and ship it right out to you by Fed-X.

"That was thoughtful of you George. We'll still need to get my bags at the hotel. Now get out of here so I can get dressed."

****************

Back at the hotel Reba and George ended up splitting a bottle of wine. Between that and the stress of the day, neither was in any shape to drive.

"I don't normally drink with co-workers, I don't know what's got into me."

"Hey, after what you've been through today, anything you'd do is quite understandable. Truth be known, I don't usually drink with co-workers either. So let's not tell anybody and instead of driving, we'll take that cab sitting there to the airport. I'll call Lennie and tell him to pick up my car, it's better than leaving it at the airport anyway . . . "

"Thanks, you're a good guy. I appreciate you understanding."

"I may be a good guy, but don't forget, I'm a bad boy!"

Giggling, Reba found herself looser than common sense told her was dignified. She was definitely tipsy and feeling more out of control than she'd permitted herself in years.

Looking in the bathroom mirror she muttered at herself.

"Well, here I am. I've just come off a flaming two week affair with a co-worker, jumped from a moving car, came face to face with a beast in the mountains, and now, I'm letting my nemesis, the man who could threaten my job, take care of me? And what now? Get drunk together and fly three thousand miles, so we can spend the next week battling it out in front of the C.E.O. who holds my purse strings? "

**************************

Swaying a bit when she stood to walk, she took George's arm and said, "What the hell is the matter with me?"

Giving her a little hug, he smiled and reassured her.

"Nothing's wrong with you Reba, that can't be cured by a little rest on the plane, I'm going to take good care of you."

Avoiding his eyes his all the way to the airport, she rested, but when he wasn't looking, she snuck an occasional glimpse There was something in the way he looked at her. Something that made her feel heated. Wicked. Wanton.

On the plane, she didn't have to feign tiredness. She was beat. George got her a blanket and read rather than try to engage her in a conversation like he'd promised Tim at headquarters.

****************

George began feeling sorry for her. Poor kid he thought, I've been pretty hard on her. She doesn't really deserve that . . . and the truth is, she's not that bad. Tim was right, I just need to get to know her a little better outside work.

The words on the pages of his Fortune 500 began to blur and before long his head fell against the head rest and he dozed off until he felt Reba's hand on his lap and her head resting against hers.

That close I don't want to get he thought. And God only knew he didn't want it to happen, but despite his best intentions he felt a stirring in his loins, and the beginning of a hard on.

Opening his eyes he saw the flight attendant walking his way and he took part of Reba's blanket along with his magazine and covered his crotch keeping her hand on his leg.

It had been a long time since he'd felt a woman's hand down there and there was no denying it felt good. Just stay asleep Reba, he told himself, just stay asleep for a little longer and I'll move your hand . . . "

They were sitting close enough that he could inhale Reba's perfume of vanilla and ginger--it mixed well with the Reunite's Raspberry Wine she'd had earlier.

Mixed with his Old Spice after-shave, he was surprised at how intoxicating he found it. And that was the last thing he wanted, especially when he was trying to sober up from their drinks they'd already had in the hotel's dinning room.

In semi-sleep, at some level, Reba was also aware of the scent. As dreamy eyed as she was, she was aware that what she was smelling was a contradictory combination of flowers and spices and then realized, it wasn't contradictory at all. At least not anymore contradictory than George's treatment of her for the last sixteen hours and how he'd behaved the past week.

****************

A few hours later, glancing over at her sleeping, George realized she'd taken off her suit jacket when she snuggled under the blanket--that it had fallen down--and here he was now, left staring at the top half of a naked breast.

Jerking his eyes back up to her face, he found her eyes open, watching him and aware of what he was focusing on. But instead of looking angry and offended, Reba looked up at him with a semi angelic smile. Or was it?

Was she aroused? He couldn't help but wonder. But that, he told himself, HAD to be his imagination running wild, and besides, that was the last thing she needed, or him, for that matter. He could have sworn though, her eyes glazed, and she licked her lips, as she looked at him as if she had an appetite.

Realizing he'd crossed a line, it dawned on him, he didn't care. All he knew for sure, is that he wanted her. There was no denying it, and he'd have the entire week ahead to do something about it. That is, if he could survive this night, without doing something stupid to mess things up.

"I'm cold, George," she said half-asleep.

Jumping up, abruptly, he said, "I'll go up front and see if there are any more blankets."

Without thinking, George put his hand on Reba's arm to get by her aisle seat and she stood up to try and make it easier for him to get out, but somehow, they landed against each other.

For a moment, neither of them moved. Reba held on to his shirt with her head against his chest. He couldn't see her face, but he felt her, in lots of places, as she breathed hard against him.

Her breasts pushed against him as her belly, pressed against his, right along with her hips and thighs. But it was her heartbeat he noticed most, because it hammered against his chest even more rapidly and raggedly than his own was pounding. She began to push herself backward, a way from him, mumbling an apology and something about too much wine. But her retreat didn't come quickly enough to prevent the sizzle of heat that shot straight to George's groin.

Politely excusing himself, he kept his magazine in front of himself and walked up the aisle to find a flight attendant for a much needed extra blanket. Stumbling on the way--he found himself leaning against the back of a seat looking up a gorgeous flight attendant--minus his magazine.

"Is there a problem I can help you with . . . " she murmured sweetly.
