VALENTINES: LOVE IN A BOTTLE ***********************************************
One night two weeks prior to February 14, 2010, Sam received an e-mail from Sally, an online friend he had grown fond over the past seven months.
He needed that letter to cheer him up, and thought of how many times that was exactly what she did.
Wondering if she knew how much she had come to mean to him, he sat down over a glass of Sherry and began pouring his heart out by writing her a poem. He wrote:
My Dearest Darling Sally, I wrote this just for you, for Valentine's Day.
Let's Pretend Were In Love ..........................................
Absence won't kill desire for you, The beautiful queen who softly speaks, A precious babe, the rose I pursue, Oh please brightly decorate my arm, I want to explore your treasure chest, With no cares, no fears, free from all harm, Touching together what we like best, Toasting each other with harvest wine, Let's heartily eat at life's banquet Pretend we're in love and all is fine.
..............................................................
Sally loved Sam's poem, thanked him and asked him to please write again soon, saying she needed him, and that his messages were all that kept her going. It was the truth. Between her personal life and work, she had one day at a time grown dependent upon his sweet words to get her through difficult days.
Letting him know she was on her way to emergency meeting, she added a post script, saying she regretted having to be so brief. When she returned home five hours later there was an e-mail message from Sam that read:

Dear Sally,
No poem this time just a heart felt note to tell you how much I love to read your warm words and have you tell me what you are doing--knowing about your daily activities makes me feel as if you're with me.
I don't need to tell you how much I long to keep you happy, melted to me. Please take some photos of yourself and send them to me. I'd love to see them and carry one of them with me in my wallet.
It would be wonderful to sit between your strong arms, and lay my head upon your breasts--have you kiss my hungry lips. I know this is not possible, but I can dream, just as I can dream of you tonight feeling my passion while I sleep so far away from you.
Until I hear from you again, I wish you all the best--blessed times in all that you do every day. In the meantime, know I respect and care for you, my sweetheart, my babe!
My best,
Sam

Dear Sam,
How terrible I've been. Where have the days gone! I cannot believe it has been four days since I have written you. Life has a way of getting in the way of sweet friendship. If any forgiveness is needed, please forgive me.
Please know how much each Valentine means to me.
Hugs,
Sally xo

Dear Sally,
As always I adore you, your touching me with your words and feelings of love. I just want to say, that when I log in here, your image comes immediately to me.
You're the light and star of my imaginary world, that's how I feel.
Are you happy in your life? Say the truth. I have this sad feeling, that perhaps you are not. Why? I do not know.
Happy Valentine's Day, everyday. And everyday, feel my love for you.
Sam

Dear Sam,
Do I have romance and love? Yes. Is this my true answer? It is truthful as possible: You might not think the love in my life is sufficient, yet, I'm grateful for that which I do have. Your instincts however are keen, if you were a bloodhound, you'd be on the right track.
Hugs,
Sally xo

Dear Sally,
My rose. You're soooo wonderful. You melt me with your real love. I am sorry to hear the love you endure is not as you would like it to be.
You're so clever to control it. Without that, what could you do. What could I do? It would be far more than we could handle.
I sincerely hope someday we meet, in the meantime I send kisses to you.
Sam

My Dearest Sam,
Thanks so much for your sweet words. I hope you are well and happy. Please forgive my all to short greetings. Know that in my heart, they are always much longer and I send heartfelt wishes for your happiness.
Hugs and kisses,
Sally xoxoxox

That very day Sam printed all the Valentines on two legal sized parchment papers and rolled them up into a tight scroll. He secured them with a long narrow red ribbon and sealed them inside an old bourbon bottle.
Taking it down to the beach, he walked out on a long pier and threw it as far as he could, out into the harbor and watched it float away.
Later that day, a beautiful woman was walking on the beach and found the bottle. She sat down in the sand and read the Valentines. Seeing Sam's email address printed across the top of the page, she returned to her cottage and wrote to Sam to telling him where she had found the bottle. Before she pushed the send button, she added a post script at the bottom:
"P.S. My name's not Sally, it's Susan. I'm lonely, so for today, I'm pretending the sweet Valentine Cards were exchanged between us. Thank you."
Sam emailed her back within minutes. His "Wish Bottle" --instead of traveling across the water to distant shores--washed up on a beach only a few miles from the resort area where Sam lived.
He asked Susan to have dinner with him--meet him--at a nearby restaurant. Within hours they were seated and ordering, surprised each other showed up.
After fifteen minutes, It felt like they had known each other forever, as if they were old friends joyously reunited. They talked and danced for hours. Finally Sam walked Susan back to her cottage on the beach.
They kissed goodnight, but not goodbye.
Valentine's Day 2010 was the best that either had ever experienced. Before they kissed goodnight again, Sam made reservations for them to spend the following weekend at a nearby Bed and Breakfast.
