"You learn to write by writing. It's a truism, but what makes it a truism is that's it's true. The only way to learn to write is to force yourself to produce a certain number of words on a regular basis."
William Zinsser

"If you went to work for a newspaper that required you to write two to three articles every day, you would be a better writer after six months. You wouldn't necessarily be writing well; your style might still be full of cliches. But you would be exercising your power of putting the English language on paper, gaining confidence and identifying the most common problems."
William Zinsser

"Blessed are they who have the gift of making friends, for it is one of God's best gifts. It involves many things, but above all; the power of going out of ones self and appreciating whatever is nobel and loving in another."

SUBMISSIONS TO DATE About ninety-eight percent of my submissions are full length erotic fantasies. Average length 2500 words (I need to double check).
There are a scattering of poems, but these I do not count in with my "full length erotic fantasies".
I think I have around eight of them on V-9, and perhaps two, that are more essays than fantasy's.
Occasionally, I incorporate them into my erotic fantasies, but only when it seems appropriate to do so.
My first favorite poem is two lines. It's by Robert Lewis Stevenson. I learned it before the age of five.
"The world is full of a number of things, I'm sure we should all be as happy as kings."
************************
Generally speaking, an erotic fantasy has a plot and is arousing to the reader.
Erotica differs in legal and artistic ways from pornography.
Like the lives of real people, an erotic fantasy incorporates sex, but does not focus totally on it.
It is the frosting on the cake in my opinion, not the cake.

Note: The 128 submissions above and the nearly 3,500 plus votes are both Babe's and Madison's combined. I've been told this is a record number of votes ever on V-9.
Thanks to all for being so supportive and good to me. ; )

Madison's are cross referenced on V-9 to Alice "Babe" Babebuilt and identities have been fully disclosed at all times to V-9 and members.

HOTTEST AUTHOR DESIGNATION
This past year, like many authors on V-9, I have been on and off the list in spots from #1 down to #9.
In May, Many of us received a number of major "9-11" attacks from cyber-bullies which resulted in a huge drop in our usual average scores.
The good news is that it contributes to our popular votes.
************************
Although no designations are given anymore for votes, they can reflect a meaningful story.
The number of votes an author receives over time are a "silent honor" that remain as his or her permanent memorial representing past efforts.
This is an honor cyber-bullies cannot use to diminish and discourage prolific V-9 authors. *************************
MERCY?
I'd take myself off Hottest Author List permanently, if I could. Instead the gods in their mercy have sent others to do it for me.
An Old Testament Story says "My enemies may have meant it for evil, but angels in heaven have meant it for good."
Something like that . . . .
I take it to mean that there is good in everything regardless of appearances.
*********************
JUDGING STORIES
Don't judge whether or not to read a story solely by its ratings, read the comments instead and look at how many times it was voted on.
If you see a great number of votes and a low score, you can rest assured that a particular author has been hit by one cyber-bully, or more.
You will over time learn which authors write the type of stories you like best.
***********************
GREAT STORIES AREN'T ALWAYS POPULAR ONES
For me, some of the very best stories on V-9 (that may have taken the author months to write) get only two or three votes. So don't overlook stories that have only a few votes. (One of these days I'm going to make up a list of my own personal favorites by various V-9 authors, then publish it in my profile for the benefit of anyone who may be interested.)
Ultimately, every reader must judge for him or herself. As the cliche goes, "One person's junk is another person's treasure."

COMMENTS
Positive comments left for authors are appreciated.
They nourish and sustain--keep us writing.
******************
A PRIVILEGE AND HONOR
Writing and submitting to V-9 is a privilege, honor and joy.
*******************************
"THE MORE YOU WRITE, THE BETTER YOU GET!"
Someone once said this--I've always loved it. (Sorry I cannot recall who it was.)
The more a member writes, the better they get.
This is the best part of V-9, the opportunity to write and get feed back.
V-9 will answer most of your questions. Select "Contact Us" at top of the home page.
************************ GOOD APPLES, BAD APPLES?
Good Apples:
I have found the vast majority of people on V9 to be good intelligent down to earth people who escape once and awhile to the fantasy world.
Bad Apples:
There appears to be a few, but they are no doubt, in my mind, doing the best they know how or they would do better.
Getting upset about them hurts far too much and only makes matters worse. Even though the reaction always seems justified at the time, it never is.
Blaming prevents the real lessons in life from appearing.
*********************
SHOW ME THE MONEY AND VOTING
I may doubt what people say, but I always believe what they do. I respect hard work and those that deliver daily such as Kenny and his associates on Velvet 9.
V-9 is an extraordinary site available "Free of Charge". Seldom in this world do you get something free of charge that provides so much without making you feel obligated.
IMO, we can do our part by submitting stories, voting in the daily poll, purchasing from the commercial sponsors (Eden Fantasys) and making contributions from time to time.
V-9 does not push this, but I feel it is only right. Talk is cheap, it what we actually do that counts in the long run. A wise friend of mine once said, "Show me your check-book and I will tell you what you value."
On that same note (talk is cheap) if you like an author's story a whole lot, give it a "5". It only takes a second to hit that button for the 10 minutes or so pleasure you received. If you don't, overlook it, and move on.
**************************
THE BEST SITE?
In my opinion V9's the best site available of its kind. I use it exclusively to write and post my stories. I especially like its "Draft" feature in the "Submit Fantasy" area. This allows me to start and store any number of partial stories. All and all the site is user friendly and has attractive graphics.
Because the site accepts nearly every type of submission, it allows artistic freedom, as well as freedom from rejection.
Even those who can't figure out how to use spell check, are not rejected and can get started here. Some of the best stories have spelling and other flaws, but are none the less wonderful and creative.
Generally speaking, no mean and unkind comments will be found on V9. It is a "tight ship" and generally well run at least 97% of the time. I figure if 3% of the time they don't, it is probably my lack of understanding or not being privy to what they know.
V-9 has created a good sense of "community" which does not appear to be as abundant on some sites. I have found it to be a 1st. class niche in the erotic market place. IMO it is designed for artistic expression in writing, photography, art, and impromptu speech/chat, a workshop of sorts where adults are free to play and experiment without censorship.
Hats off to the genius of its creator Kenny and his associates. On September 12, 2010, V-9 will celebrate its 2nd Anniversary.

JUDGING
"Judge not, lest you be judged" means to me that I do not have the right to judge another person.
Only myself. I can change me, but not others. Or would I want to.
It's not always easy, but worthwhile in the long run, a good reminder to point the finger at myself not others.
I try to refrain from snap judgement, most matters can wait.
Given enough time, our answers arrive in a timely fashion and give us direction.
Unless there is a dire life threatening matter, "knee-jerk decisions" are seldom the best choice despite the urgency our ego incites. Often things are not as they appear.

A V-9 EDUCATION
Although there are times I still question it, I would have to say my past year on V-9 is one of the most liberating educational adventures of my life.
Not one school of higher learning has taught me so much in such a short period of time. About writing, about sex, and tolerance.
*********************
COMPLAINT FREE PURPLE BRACELETS
For almost two years now I have worn a purple complaint free bracelet. If I ever complain about anything to anyone in the real world, I have to remove my bracelet and put it on the other wrist. I still have to start over from time to time but over all it is a tremendous help.
There have been days when I was a total "purple bracelet" failure, where the bracelet flew from one wrist to the next. But even on such dark days, it helps me to become more quickly aware of my errors in thinking, to realize that the world will go on an do what it does, and that the only thing I can change is how I react to it.
Footnote: A year prior to that I created a similar program that consisted of saying a mantra many times a day: "Never criticize anyone, anything, any place or myself." I still use phase #1 in emergency situations. (I need to write a story about this someday and the red-neck in a pick-up truck who inspired it. My best teachers often come in surprising disguises!)
*****************************
NO COMPLAINTS AT WORK OR SCHOOL
Both of the above programs are life changing and can improve every relationship in ones life. Some employers and private schools have adopted this and now have one day out of every week that they declare as a "No Complaint Day".
*****************************
ARE MY STORIES FICTION?
All of my stories on V-9 are works of fiction.
Names, characters, places, and incidents either are the product of my imagination or used fictitiously.
Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, events, or locales is entirely coincidental.
*************************
HOT LISTING MEMBERS
If I had to do it all over again, I would only add people and never subtract them. Perhaps this is a good lesson to carry into the real world. I grew up hearing "I'm crossing him/her off my list!" It was never for more than a few weeks but it taught me a lesson.
So if I ever took you off my list, I apologize. None of my reasons were ever justified when I look back. I figure now if I get sick or die and someone sees my computer with avatar pics that offend them, that's their problem and not mine. Currently I use the "block avatar" function V-9 has so thoughtfully provided. (Somethings are better not staring you in the face when you are trying to work.)
********************************
FORGIVENESS
Forgiving others helps me more than them. And really, what is there to forgive? Everyone does the best they know how to do at any given time, including me.
********************************
GUARDIAN ANGELS
To those who take the time to rate and write little notes saying nice things to me or any of the authors here: may your guardian angel richly reward and bless you.
***************************
CHATTING
Rather than participate in "chatting" I prefer to exchange messages. If I am doing work on another screen and see the chat link blinking I will try to answer with a message. For any inconveniences I apologize.
I catch messages when I take a break from working on another screen. I love to get them and try to reply as soon as possible, whether that's five minutes, five hours or five days.
**************************
PURPOSE
1. My primary purpose for being on V-9 is to be able to submit stories--to get feedback and become a better writer.
2. I believe everything is always perfect: either for my enjoyment or my growth. V-9 is the perfect laboratory to test the validity of this belief and to further my on-going research.
*****************************
IDEAS TO LIVE BY?
1. Karma. What you put out in life comes back to you - good and bad - and not necessarily from the same people.
I do believe negative "Karma" can be washed away by the power of brotherly love and forgiveness.
It is like in the movie "Pay It Forward". If someone is happy with a gift from me, I want them to pass it on to someone else, not figure that they owe me. I say this, but life checks me out and I often find that deep in the corners of my heart I DID expect something back and that is why I feel sad. It is a painful discovery but one that offers growth in my consciousness when I can open my eyes wide enough to see my error in thinking.
Footnote: "Pay It Forward": The movie with Kevin Spacey and Helen Hunt.
2. The Golden Rule.
I like this for many reasons and find it is telling that throughout the world this simple idea continues to survive and be predominate in all world religions.
"Do unto others as you would HAVE them do unto you."
************************
APPRECIATING CREATIVE IDEAS
If you are a V9 writer there are many here who will be a friend, even if that is no more than reading, commenting and appreciating your creative ideas.
******************************
RELIGION AND SEX
Religion? Sex? For me there is no conflict. I consider my spirituality as real as my sexuality. The only thing wrong with sex is the same thing that's wrong with religion: lying, rage, violence, rape, hatred, and taking away free will. Eliminate those things, and I see them both as good and part of living fully.
********************************
UNFORGETTABLE STORIES
Some fantasies here are unforgettable. Truly great stories.
Other tales are for the moment--one night stands--erotica providing something of value if no more than a "quickie".
In my opinion most of it is good and appears to fulfill a human need to communicate and share to explore, venture forth, and escape to another world.
I may be wrong but for now, that's how I see it. I try to write both kinds, none of them came easy. I would guess this is true for everyone.
*****************************
Generally speaking, If a particular story is not your cup of tea, refrain from rating and move on to one that is more to your liking.
*********************
FAMOUS WRITERS OF EROTICA
"The Diary Of Anais Nin" I thought perhaps I would relate to her stories better, but although they are not as harsh as Henry Miller's, they do not touch me on a deeper level. Probably in her day the thoughts she shared were new and fresh. I may someday feel differently after I further explore one of her novels.
What I find particularly interesting is how the work of Henry Miller and Anais Nin influenced erotic writing and legal precedent. For that alone, they deserve to be remembered. We tend to take freedom of speech for granted but it is an assumption better not made.
As for ground breaking erotica, my knowledgable V-9 "consultant" says that title should probably go to DH Lawrence, author of Sons and Lovers and Lady Chatterly's Lover (banned in the US briefly.)

LESSON'S LEARNED
Author: Gordon Dean b.1905 d.1958
1. Never lose your capacity for enthusiasm .
2. Never lose your capacity for indignation.
3. Never judge people to quickly; but in a pinch, always first assume that a person is good, and that at the worst, he or she is in the grey area between good and bad.
4. If you can't be generous when it is hard, you won't be when it is easy.
5. The greatest builder of confidence is the ability to do something, almost anything, well.
6. When that confidence comes, then strive for humility, you aren't as good as all of that.
7. And the way to become truly useful, is to seek the best that others have to offer. Use them to supplement your own, and give credit to them when they have helped.
8. The greatest tragedies in the world and personal events stem from misunderstandings. Answer: communicate.
